What We Publish

Submission Guidelines

Length

Articles should be 1,000–3,000 words. Deep dives can go up to 5,000 words.

Format

Submit in Markdown or Google Docs. Include code blocks, diagrams, and images where helpful.

Originality

All submissions must be original work not published elsewhere. We do accept expanded versions of blog posts with significant new content.

Research Articles

We give preference to articles accompanied by reproducible code on GitHub. If your article includes experiments, simulations, or implementations, please include a link to your public repository. Research-backed articles with working code are prioritized in our editorial review.

Review Process

Our editorial team reviews submissions within 5 business days. We may suggest edits for clarity, accuracy, or style before publication.

Submitting code

If your article comes with code, tell us in the form which of these you want. Every option credits you by name and links to your repository.

1Article only

No code. We publish the article and that is the whole submission — most articles are this.

2Code readers can run in the Lab

Your circuit becomes interactive: readers run and edit it in the browser with nothing to install, and your study gets an Open in Lab button. Possible when the circuit uses 3 qubits or fewer and only H, X, Z and CNOT.

3Code in the study library

For anything the browser Lab cannot run — parameterised rotations, multi-controlled gates, real hardware. Your study is listed with Open in Colab and GitHub buttons, credited and tested the same way.

4A link to your repository

We mention your repository in the article and nothing more. Nothing is mirrored, pinned or tested, and the article says so.

Your repository needs a licence

Unlicensed code is all rights reserved by default, so we have no right to publish it. Add MIT, Apache-2.0 or BSD before submitting. Creative Commons licences are written for prose rather than software, so please don't use one for code.

We run it before we publish it

Published code is pinned to the exact package versions it was tested against and re-run every week, with the result shown on the study. Tell us which Python version it needs, and include tests if you have them — without them a study shows "Status unavailable" rather than a passing check.
